Dr. Ravindra Mukkunda is a Consultant Nephrologist with special interest in Kidney Transplantation. He graduated from Mysore Medical College in 1999 then did MD in General Medicine at Vijayanagara Institute of Medical Sciences Bellary from 1999 to 2002. He later worked at St.John’s Medical College as a Nephrology senior resident in 2003. Then moved to United Kingdom in 2004 for super speciality training. He completed MRCP – Medicine a Royal college membership examination in 2007. His super-speciality training in Nephrology was at Cambridge (Adenbrooke’s Hospital) and Portsmouth University Hospitals, UK. He completed MRCP – Nephrology in 2012 and gained CCT (Certificate of Completion training in Nephrology & General Internal Medicine) in 2013. Later he completed MSc in Renal transplantation science in 2016 with Dissertation on ‘’New onset diabetes mellitus in Kidney Transplant patients’’ from Liverpool University, UK. He worked as Consultant Nephrologist at Doncaster and Bassetlaw teaching Hospitals,
Doncaster, UK from 2013. In 2018, he voved to India and worked as an Assistant Professor in Nephrology from 2018 to 2019 at St. John’s Medical College Hospital, Bengaluru. From 2020 to 2022 he worked as a Consultant in Nephrology and acute Medicine in Scotland, UK. He has extensive experience in managing chronic kidney disease, haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, Vasculitis in Renal Transplant patients.

He is passionate in teaching medical students, nephrology trainees, dialysis nurses and technicians; is actively involved in audits and quality improvement projects. While his focus is on getting kidney failure patients an immediate organ transplant, in cases where transplant is not an option he focuses on delivering high quality dialysis to patients by educating nurses, patients, managing fistula etc. While at St. John’s, he introduced a comprehensive patient dialysis information booklet which put all the different pieces of patient information like blood tests, serology, medications etc. into a single folder. His care is patient centric by involving patients and relatives in planning treatment. Blessed with excellent communication skills, he spends considerable time with patients to assess their condition and explain the management plan, which is greatly appreciated by both patients and family members.
